2 days Workshop in Venice exploring the city in the lagoon and capturing some of its most unique sceneries.

Venice – 26 & 27 October 2024
Let’s draw Venice in this 2 days workshop where we will explore and draw this timeless masterpiece of Italian architecture.
On Day 1 we will meet in Piazza San Marco in front of San Mark’s Basilica, where we will refresh the foundations of ink drawing and architectural perspective. We will walk around the city and its canals where I will teach you how to improve our observational skills and composition techniques with a series of small sketches.
After Lunch we will select a spot and demonstrate how to draw a scenery using Fountain pen and ink washing, guiding you step by step in the process to draw it on your sketchbook and share with you tips and trick to improve your drawing style.
On Day 2 we will meet in front of Palazzo Ducale. We will start with some drawing warm ups and then learn how to simplify complex sceneries into quick drawings.
From here here we will walk towards Ponte Rialto passing through some of the most famous spots of Venice capturing them in a series of sketches in a style of travel journal. You will learn how to take notes, add sensory information to your drawings and how to transform your sketches into a storytelling device.
After lunch we will learn basics of color theory and color mixing. Then we will find a spot where we will draw our second sketch in ink and watercolour.
Materials:
All the drawing materials are provided (excluding the stool), although I encourage you to bring your fountain pen and sketchbook if possible. This way you will be able to practice with them consistently.
- Pen: Fountain Pen (recommended) with M or F nib or Fineliners 0.5mm and 0.1mm – black and waterproof
- Water brush with grey ink or a grey color marker with round brush tip.
- Sketchbook: with Minimum of 250 g/ms hot pressed white pages and hardback. Size A5 or A4 or equivalent loose paper
- Paperclips
- Pencil (B or 2B)
- Ruler
- Eraser
- Portable Stool (recommended)
- Sketch Pad
- Watercolour set (not included)

We will adjust the route according to the weather! We will always have a range of locations to choose from if it is going to rain.
During the in person workshops the majority of the materials are provided (excluding watercolor, brushes and stool), but I recommend you to bring your own fountain pen and sketchbook in order to keep your practicing consistent. You will also receive an email with the details of what to bring for each sessions.

50% deposit is requested at the registration which can be refunded if the workshop status is Pending (up to 1 week before the workshop date). The deposit or the full fee will not be refunded after the workshop status is confirmed (1 week before the workshop date).
Absolutely yes and it is encouraged. We will start with the basics of ink drawing and architecture perspective before guiding you step by step into the drawing itself.
Every artist has his own distinct way to approach to urban sketching. The beauty of this workshop is that it will offer you a fresh way to observe the world through Andrea’s ink drawing and watercolor style. Drawing together with Andrea will also give you new inspirations and shared drawing experience to further enrich your art journey.

Drawing has always been an important part of Andrea’s life since childhood.
As a professional architect he often need to express ideas using hand drawings, and so his drawings became more informative and visually appealing in order to catch the audience’s interest.
In parallel Andrea started to use sketchbooks to keep track of his personal works.
He is also a passionate drawing teacher with the goal to let people discover the world through hand drawings and urban sketching.
